A CivicFrames Urdu poetic reflection on the unpaid and uncounted work of women, grounded in the Labour Force Survey 2024-25.
Poem

Evidence behind the verses
Stanza 2: In the Labour Force Survey 2024-25, the labour force participation rate for the population aged 10 and over was 22.7 percent for women and 68.7 percent for men under the 19th ICLS standard (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics 2025). The poem renders these as fewer than 23 in 100 and close to 70. The release also reported that 76 percent of working age women, 66.7 million of 87.6 million, are engaged in unpaid domestic and care work, which the poem expresses as three in four (Associated Press of Pakistan 2025). Stanza 3: The female unemployment rate was 10.5 percent, against 7.1 percent overall (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics 2025). The poem expresses this as one in ten women who look for work being turned away. Stanzas 4 and 5: These lines are interpretation and creative adaptation. Market access for home based crafts, accounts in women’s own names, counting care work, safe and reliable transport, childcare, and digital market access are presented as directions for change, not as measured findings of the survey.
